What is field hockey?

Field hockey, or in Swedish “land hockey”, is a fun outdoor game played by two opposing teams of 11 players each. Different to Ice hockey and Bandy, players use sticks curved at the striking end to hit a small, hard ball into their opponent's goal. The sport is known to be played in over 100 countries, making it the second biggest team sport in the world.

Indoor hockey is an, also fun, variant of field hockey. The team consists of 6 players, one of whom is a goalkeeper. It is not to be confused with floorball or indoor roller hockey. The game played on a smaller indoor pitch with side-boards marking the sidelines, helping to keep the ball on the pitch and allowing players to play against it.

Check out the video below for the rules of outdoor field hockey explained.
